The Congressional Award Program

The Congressional Award is the United States Congress' award for American youth (ages 13.5-24). The Award recognizes achievement in four program areas:

1. Voluntary Public Service

2. Personal Development

3. Physical Fitness

4. Expedition/Exploration

This award honors recipients for setting personal goals, creating action plans, and meeting the challenge rather than for past accomplishments. The Congressional Award aims to recognize initiative, service, and achievement.

Able2Shine Foundation provides Advisor and supports participants of The Congressional Award by assisting with verification and validation of service hours. While we help confirm and document activities, the official certification is issued solely by The Congressional Award Program.

We reserve the right to decline hours that appear artificially inflated, activities with an unclear nature, or those lacking proper verification.

Who do we help with?

Anyone who has completed the Shine4Love Teens Club Application Form and paid the membership fee. We guide and support active Shine4Love Teens Club members in applying for The Congressional Award. Members must also log at least 1/3 of their volunteer hours with the club.

Why should I participate?

Congressional recognition sets you apart. It's a tremendous honor. Even though you may not seek recognition, by helping out the community, your example can deliver a powerful message that encourages others to take action.

When do I submit the application?

The Congressional Award itself does not have a deadline for submissions, so work at your own pace! However, if you want to be included in the annual Gold Medal Ceremony in Washington, D.C., you must complete your Record Book by February 1st.

How do I track service hours?

Once you sign up with Shine4Love Teens Club, we will provide you with the tracking sheet template and guide you through the process.
